Students who do not meet the admission requirements to gain acceptance into Southern University at Baton Rouge (SUBR) or Southern University at New Orleans (SUNO) are automatically referred for consideration to enroll at SUSLA College Connect.
Students do not have to pay an additional application fee. Participation in SUSLA College Connect prepares this population of students to ultimately enroll as a SUBR or SUNO student.
Southern University at Baton Rouge (SUBR) and Southern University at New Orleans (SUNO) have collaborated with Southern University at Shreveport (SUSLA) to offer the courses required for admission to SUBR or SUNO as a transfer student. Upon completion of 12 college-level credit hours (which includes a grade of “C” or better in a college-level English and a college-level Math), and a cumulative GPA of 2.00, students are eligible to transition to one of the 4-year schools. Students will take courses on the 4-year campuses taught by SUSLA instructors. Students will live in the residence hall on the host school (SUBR or SUNO) campus, and are eligible to participate in student activities on both the host campus and the SUSLA campus. All courses taken at SUSLA College Connect will automatically transfer to SUBR or SUNO upon completion of the required courses and GPA. It will not be necessary for students to request official transcripts from SUSLA; transcripts will be automatically sent to the students' host school free of charge.
Now to the “icing” on the SUSLA College Connect “cake”: midway through pursuing a 4-year degree at one of the host schools, students may be eligible to obtain a 2-year degree from SUSLA.
That’s right! Once students have earned 60 college-level credits at the 4-year institution, they may be eligible to be awarded an associate degree in one of SUSLA’s academic programs…all while pursuing your 4-year degree at SUBR or SUNO. Ultimately, SUSLA College Connect students can emerge from their “Jaguar” experience with two degrees.
In order to receive financial aid for SUSLA College Connect, students must add Southern University at Shreveport to their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). SUSLA’s school code is 007686.
