Hurricane Isaac made landfall in south Louisiana as a Category I hurricane with winds of 80 mph. Downgraded to a tropical storm, Isaac continues to produce heavy rains and winds, flooding, and major power outages continue throughout the affected areas.
According to various weather forecasts, the storm’s forward movement is slower than expected and tropical storm conditions are expected to last through today and possibly tomorrow.
Southern University System campuses affected by Hurricane Isaac include Southern University New Orleans (SUNO), Southern University Baton Rouge (SUBR), Southern University Agricultural Research and Extension Center (SU Ag Center), and Southern University Law Center (SULC). Southern University Shreveport (SUSLA) will likely be impacted by tropical storm conditions as Isaac passes through north Louisiana.
Due to conditions caused by Hurricane Isaac, all classes and activities scheduled at SUNO are canceled for Thursday, August 30 and Friday, August 31, 2012. SUNO students, faculty, and staff are expected to resume regular activity on Tuesday, September 4, 2012, following the Labor Day Holiday.
All SUSLA students, faculty, and staff are asked to monitor their University email accounts, the University's social media sites, and local news to get updates concerning classes and announcements. Regular updates and announcements regarding any developments related to the storm will be provided via e-mail, on our website (www.susla.edu), and via social and local media.
Please follow precautions and measures for safety before, during, and after the storm.
