SUSLA HOSTS INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION LUNCHEON
Luncheon held in conjunction with International Education Week
The SUSLA Baptist Collegiate Ministry hosted an international education luncheon for members of the SUSLA community as a part of the national observance of International Education Week. The event was held Monday, November 16 in the Jesse Stone Lecture Hall on the MLK campus.
Designed to acknowledge, respect, understand and appreciate the benefits of international education and community at Southern University at Shreveport, the luncheon featured words of welcome from the SUSLA BCM, Miss Sophomore and Chancellor S. Albert Gilliam. Members of the international community at SUSLA shared their experiences and the pros and cons of visiting institutions of higher education as an international student.
“It is hard and we work very hard to do well in our time here, but we appreciate the experience that we get here,” noted one student who is a native of Nigeria.
Those in attendance also participated in a special video conference message from United States Secretary of State John Kerry, and enjoyed fellowship and discussion over an international buffet of assorted foods.
International Education Week is an opportunity to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide. This joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education is part of ongoing efforts to promote programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn, and exchange experiences in the United States.
Southern University at Shreveport, an institution within the Southern University System, seeks to provide a quality education for its students, while being committed to the total community. This institution prepares students for careers in technical and occupational fields; awards certificates and associate degrees as well as offerings and programs that are transferable to other colleges and universities.
