The Caddo Parish Commission approved a request from Southern University at Shreveport for $125,000 to begin a licensed practical nurse program. SUSLA’s school of Nursing is headed by Dr. Sandra Tucker. The commission unanimously approved a second request for SUSLA for $125,000 for its existing aerospace program. SUSLA’s Aerospace Technology Program is directed by Mr. David Fogleman.
SUSLA will now have a stepping stone from its certified nursing assistant program to its registered nurse program. "Students are having problems in the RN program because they weren't educationally prepared to compete in the rigors of an RN program," SUSLA Dean of Nursing Dr. Sandra Tucker said. "They needed a base, and that's what the LPN program will do.” She said. "Our goal is to provide them with a job, so they do become taxpaying citizens and contribute to the community.
