RN Testing Information Sheet - Please Read Before Testing

IMPORTANT STUDENT INFORMATION FOR THE
NACE 1.2S: FOUNDATIONS IN NURSING EXAM (NACE)
AND
NURSE ENTRANCE EXAM (NEX) formerly the Pre-Admission Exam (PAX)

Beginning January 2024, the NLN will update its testing products in order to increase test security and support more accurate student resources.

  • The NACE 1.2S: Foundations in Nursing Exam is the newest version of the NACE. It is a test of basic nursing knowledge designed for students who are already Licensed Practical Nurses who are applying for the LPN-to-RN program.
  • The Nurse Entrance Exam (formerly the Pre-Admission Exam) is a math, English, and science test and is designed for traditional/generic students. The NEX content is VERY similar to the PAX. Differences in the exams include: the NEX provides more time per section (60 minutes instead of 40 minutes); scores are immediately available; composite score range of the NEX is 0-300 (PAX range was 0-200). SUSLA set the benchmark score for the PAX at 120; the NEX benchmark will initially be 180 (this may change after spring 2024 testing).
  • PAX scores will still be accepted with clinical applications although NEX scores are preferred.
  • The NACE and NEX exams should only be taken once within a 5-month period (Even if the testing website allows you to register for the exam again). SUSLA will only accept the initial score if the test is taken in less than a 5-month period. All other attempts will be invalid. This rule also applies for the PAX.
  • If you would like to purchase practice materials to help you prepare for your exam, you can do so by logging in to the testing portal for the National League for Nursing (NLN): nlntest.org. You can enter your username (email) and password to log in. If you are a new tester, you will need to create an account. In creating a new account, please make sure to list Southern University at Shreveport as your home school. Practice materials can also be purchased on the NurseHub website: www.nursehub.com . See informational flyer on nursing homepage of SUSLA website. Students can also Google search for study aids as there are many companies that provide this type of support.
  • Both the NACE and the NEX can be taken in-person or with a live, virtual proctor (via Proctor360) from any computer with a camera, microphone, and a strong internet connection. If you choose to take the exam virtually, do not pay for the exam at SUSLA. You will pay for the exam with a credit or debit card at the time of purchase on the nlntest.org website. Note that there is a $16 non-refundable proctoring fee that will be added to the cost of the exam for virtual testing. A minimum 48-hour pre-booking wait is also required for virtual testing. Also, note that if a scheduled virtual session is missed, a re-booking fee will be required in order to test.
