The International Student Advisor serves as liaison and ombudsman between the university and international students, federal government, public and private agencies, and the community. To better provide focused advising, the Admissions Office has designated two (2) days for servicing our international students.

SUSLA will receive and evaluate the following documentation and ensure the following conditions have been met before issuing a Form- I-20:
- An Application for Admission from the prospective student
- A $30 non-refundable, application fee. A postage and handling fee may be required for mailing the I-20 and acceptance documents.
- Prospective student must submit their official high school or/and college academic records
- An original official high school transcript must be presented to the International Student Advisor who will certify its authenticity. Original will be returned to the student.
Prospective students whose native language is not English must present proof of English proficiency that meets the institution's requirements for admission.
- IELTS Band Score: 4.5
- TOEFL Score (Internet-based): 32
- PTEA Score (Pearson PTE Academic): 29
On a case-by-case basis, students whose IELTS scores are at least 4.5 or its TOEFL equivalent will be considered for an exception based on an evaluation by the Center for Student Success. SUSLA uses the ETS score comparison tool to compare TOEFL iBT scores to the IELTS academic module. The chart can be found at ETS Compare Scores.
Prospective student must present a financial Certification document that shows adequate sufficient funds for the program of study
Students studying with an F-1 Student Visa are required to study in a full-time program-a minimum of 12 hours or it;s summer equivalent per semester.
When the student is accepted into the University, a completed I-20 form and a letter of acceptance will be given or sent to the student. The Designated School Official (DSO) will assist students residing in the U.S. by processing their change of visa status or their application for a transfer from another U.S. school and by having all required documents forwarded to the Immigration and Naturalization Service.
Overseas students will have to go to their local U.S. Consulate or Embassy with their passport, I-20 form issued by SUSLA, and appropriate financial information to apply for an F-1 Student Visa.
Foreign Credit Evaluation
SUSLA does not conduct its own foreign credit evaluations for the purpose of transfer of academic credit earned overseas. International students are responsible for costs involved for an evaluator and for making all the necessary arrangements. You must select the “Comprehensive Course-by-Course Report” on the evaluation application request. SUSLA will accept foreign credit evaluations from a certified credentials evaluator.

Official Test of English as Foreign Language (TOEFL)
- Test of English as Foreign Language (TOEFL) scores are required for students whose country use English as second language. A minimum TOEFL Score (Internet-based) of 32 is recommended.
- The International English Language Test (IELTS) band score of 4.5 will be accepted in lieu of the TOEFL.
- The Pearson PTE Academic(PTEA) score of 29 or higher will be accepted in lieu of the TOEFL
- On a case-by-case basis, students whose IELTS scores are at least 4.0 or its TOEFL equivalent will be considered for an exception based on an evaluation by the Center for Student Success. Other English proficiency tests may be acceptable after review by the International Admissions Committee. Proof of Immunization
Each student entering the university shall provide satisfactory evidence of immunity to or immunization against vaccine-preventable diseases to include but not be limited to measles, mumps, rubella, tetanus/diphtheria, and meningitis. This policy applies to all students entering the institution for the first time and all students returning after an absence of one semester or more. Under circumstances where the immunization records cannot be readily obtained, or for personal reasons, the student may sign an immunization waiver during the application process.
In the event of an outbreak of a vaccine-preventable disease, students without immunization records will be exclude from the premises until the appropriate disease incubation period has expired or the unimmunized person presents evidence of immunization.
Certification of Financial Resources
- International students must submit proof of financial ability to pay tuition and fees. A financial guarantee (for scholarship students), bank statement, or an affidavit of financial sponsorship is acceptable.
ACT or SAT scores
- International students required to have test scores will be granted acceptance with a registration hold to allow to take the AccuPlacer exam once they arrive to the campus. Once they have completed the AccuPlacer exam the registration hold will be removed.
New first-time traditional freshmen seeking admission into degree-seeking programs are required to have test scores on file for placement purposes. Acceptable tests are ACT, SAT, Compass, Asset, AccuPlacer.
New first-time non-traditional freshmen (age 25 or older) seeking admission into degree programs are not required to have test scores on file. However, students without test scores may be placed in developmental courses. Students may opt to take the AccuPlacer to be placed into college-level courses.
Students seeking admission into non-degree programs are not required to have test scores on file.
Note: Some non-degree programs may have test score requirements that students must adhere to.
