Tuition Related Fees

Mandatory Enrollment Fees

Academic Excellence Fee: $10 per credit hour (maximum $120 charge). All students are required to pay the academic excellence fee. The monies derived are used to promote academic excellence by enhancing instructional programs. This fee is not covered by TOPS.

Academic Enhancement – $10 per credit hour (maximum $120 charge). This fee us used for instructional library books or equipment, student laboratory equipment, and student computer laboratory equipment. This fee is not covered by TOPS.

Building Use Fee: $4 per credit hour (maximum $48 charge). All students are required to pay the building use fee. The monies derived are used to maintain or improve facilities and infrastructure. This fee is not covered by TOPS.

Breakage Fee – $1 per semester for full-time students only. This fee is to cover any damage to classrooms. This fee is not covered by TOPS.

Class Fee – $2 per semester for full-time students only. This fee supports Student Government Association. This fee is not covered by TOPS.

Energy Surcharge – $4 per credit hour (maximum $48 charge). Students will be assessed an energy surcharge per credit hour. The energy surcharge fee is to help the University offset a portion of the increased cost of utilities. This fee is not covered by TOPS.

Student ID – $10 per semester. This fee covers all costs associated with students obtaining a current student identification card to be used for all university related activities. This fee is not covered by TOPS.

Student Life Insurance – This fee covers the cost of an insurance premium for death benefits for incidents occurring during university related activities. This fee is not covered by TOPS.

University Maintenance Fee – This fee covers the increased operational costs incurred with construction of new facilities and maintenance of existing facilities. This fee is not covered by TOPS.

University Support Fee – This fee covers the increased operational costs incurred with maintaining equipment and student support services. This fee is not covered by TOPS.

Student Fees

Pay for various student activities sponsored by the College. The SGA Fee and Student Activities/Athletic fee support student life.

Athletic Fee – This fee covers the cost of all athletic related activities and allows students to attend the events free of charge. This fee is not covered by TOPS.
Band Fee – Flat rate of $21. This fee covers the cost of all band related activities. This fee is not covered by TOPS.
Cheer Fee – Flat rate of $5. This fee will be used to cover a variety of expenses encountered by the cheer team. This fee is not covered by TOPS.
Intramural – Flat rate of $7. The fee covers the costs associated with the Intramural Sports Program. This fee is not covered by TOPS.
Lyceum – $3 charge for 6 credit hours or more (maximum $5 charge). The purpose of the fee supports events that promote diversity and exposure to the students of the University. This fee is not covered by TOPS.
Special Events Fee – This fee covers the costs associated with all special events planned for the student body (concerts, workshops, etc.) This fee is not covered by TOPS.
Student Activities – Flat rate of $5.  Created by the Student Government Association to assist with all student activities on campus. This fee is not covered by TOPS.
Student Government – $15 per credit hour (maximum $25 charge). This fee provides money for the Student Senate to allocate to student groups who need financial assistance. The day-to-day operations and expenses required to run the SGA office also come from the Student Government Fee.  This fee is not covered by TOPS.
Student Life Improvement Fee – This fee supports initiatives that enhance student life. This fee is not covered by TOPS.
Student Union – Flat rate of $25. Fee supports the programming efforts of the Student Union Board and maintenance of the Student Union facility. Their mission is to enhance the educational, social, cultural and recreational environment at the University. This fee is not covered by TOPS.
Technology Fee: $5 per credit hour (maximum $100 charge). All students are required to pay the technology fee. The monies derived are used for the purpose of implementing, replacing, improving, and expanding technologies to benefit student life. This fee is not covered by TOPS.
Transportation Fee –Flat rate $5.  Fee supports the campus shuttle bus service. Fee includes the cost of operations, vehicle purchase and maintenance, and driver.  This fee is not covered by TOPS.

Course Fees

Online Course Fee - Any student taking a course or courses whose instructional method is considered online or hybrid will be assessed a $15 per credit hour fee. This fee is used to cover the costs associated with providing technical support to students.

SUSLA Allied Health and Nursing programs have many out of pocket costs related to instruments, supplies, uniforms, exam prep, etc.

Science Course Fees – lab supplies; its use, maintenance, and replacement, including hardware and specialized software, as well as specific instructional needs for the course.

Education Course Fee – This fee is used for background checks

Course Book Fee – All students are assessed $25 per credit hour for required books needed for the course enrolled.

Math and English Course Fee – The fee of $65 is used to provide the necessary lab supplies including specialized software.


Students enrolled in Math 133 (Algebra for College Students), SMAT 121 (Precalculus Algebra), SMAT 122 (Plane Trigonometry), SMAT 130 ( Probability and Statistics), SMAT 211 (Analytic Geometry/Calculus 1), and SMAT 212 (Analytic Geometry/Calculus II) can expect to pay a one-time out of pocket cost of $12.00 per course per semester directly to Proctor U for verification of student identity during online proctored exams.
