Information Literacy Lab
With the explosion of information now available on the internet, students and adults must become information literate. Information literacy is defined as an individual's ability to:
- Recognize a need for information
- Identify and locate appropriate information sources
- Know how to gain access to the information contained in those sources
- Evaluate the quality of information obtained
- Organize the information
- Use the information effectively
The goal of the Information Literacy Lab is to bring computers, technology and books together. The University Library will go beyond the role of being a service provider to that of a teacher of information access. The lab will endeavor to enhance resource skills, provide for lifelong learning opportunities and develop efficient and effective technical skills that will help in developing workforce skills.
The Information Literacy Lab is a place where students, faculty, and the community can gain valuable computer knowledge, while developing strong literacy skills.
The Information Literacy Lab is located on the second floor of the Southern University at Shreveport Library. Computers and assistance are available to all students and to the community. The University Library makes this facility available free of charge. We are dedicated to helping you attain or improve your literacy skills.
