POSITION SUMMARY

The Clinical Instructor is under the immediate supervision of the program director, the clinical instructor is responsible for classroom instruction, laboratory integration, and coordination of student activities within a particular course of study in the respiratory therapy program.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Meeting all scheduled classes for the full class period.
  • Maintaining scheduled office hours as posted.
  • Assuming duties, including assignments on committees, over and above assigned classes and office hours.
  • Following prescribed course syllabi and adopted textbooks.
  • Preparing instructional materials and keeping them current to make the best possible use of each class period.
  • Informing students of course objectives, performance objectives, class procedures, and grading policies at the beginning of the semester.
  • Enhancing the instructional/learning process by emphasizing effective course organization and planning, faculty/student interaction, communication, level of course difficulty and workload, appropriate textbooks and reading, and tests and examinations.
  • Keeping accurate records of student’s attendance, grades, and final semester grade as specified in the policy manual.
  • Advising student majors in their respective subject fields or program areas.
  • Working cooperatively with other members of the faculty and staff in an effort tocontribute to overall institutional effectiveness.
  • Maintaining an atmosphere of dignity and propriety conducive to learning inclassroom.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
  • To provide instruction and guidance to the student
  • Graduate follow-up survey.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • The Clinical Coordinator must hold a baccalaureate degree from an academic institution accredited by a regional or national accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (USDE).
  • The Clinical Coordinator must hold a valid Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential and hold such professional license or certificate as is required by the state of Louisiana.
  • Have a minimum of four (4) years’ experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist with at least two (2) years of experience teaching either as an appointed faculty member in a CoARC-accredited respiratory care program or as a clinical instructor/preceptor for students of such programs.
  • Have a minimum of Bachelor Degree.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Positive and energetic interpersonal skills that contribute to team outcomes are a must.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Strong computer skills with proficiency in utilizing software applications (e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Proficient with online instruction using a Learning Management System.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
  • Proven organization and prioritization skills that facilitate multi-tasking, accuracy, and punctuality with assigned tasks.    
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.Excellent organizational and time management skills.
