SUMMARY

Southern University at Shreveport, Louisiana (SUSLA) is accepting applications for the Educational Advocate position. SUSLA is a comprehensive community college serving Shreveport, Bossier City, and surrounding areas in Northwest Louisiana.  It is one of five campuses constituting the Historically Black Southern University System.  The University serves approximately 3,000 undergraduate students and offers 32 undergraduate degrees and certificate programs in a variety of fields including Allied Health, Nursing, Aerospace Technology, Business Studies, Behavioral Science/Education and Science & Technology.

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Educational Advocate is responsible for developing and implementing participant educational plans. This includes coordinating all aspects of the Educational Advocate role and working collectively with other related partnership programs as needed.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Report to the Director of Upward Bound North.
  • Assist the Director with preparations and negotiations of the Upward Bound North Program.
  • Assist the Director with all program administration for Upward Bound North in compliance with EDGAR in preparation of Annual Performance Report (APR).
  • Assist with all proofing of documents.
  • Serve in other capacities as directed by the Director of the program.
  • Assist with all plans and implementations of seminars for Upward Bound North.
  • Data entry, assist in assessment process, group counseling sessions
  • Travel for professional development when necessary.
  • Maintain participants’ records, provide tutoring, if necessary, provide supervision at workshops and other activities

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Must have a bachelor’s degree in Guidance and Counseling or related field.
  • Willing to travel.
  • Strong attention to detail information
  • Commitment to the advancement of socially, economically, and educationally deprived populations.
  • Experience with working with secondary school students and knowledge of the essential element used in the public-school systems.

 

PREFERRED:   

  • Minimum of three (2) years in Federal TRiO programs.

 

Compensation:

Salary Range: $32, 000 - $35, 000 (This is a grant funded position)
