SUMMARY

Southern University at Shreveport, Louisiana (SUSLA) is accepting applications for the Engineering Technology Adjunct Instructor (Adjunct) position. SUSLA is a comprehensive community college serving Shreveport, Bossier City, and surrounding areas in Northwest Louisiana.  It is one of five campuses constituting the Historically Black Southern University System.  The University serves approximately 3,000 undergraduate students and offers 32 undergraduate degrees and certificate programs in a variety of fields including Allied Health, Nursing, Aerospace Technology, Business Studies, Behavioral Science/Education and Science & Technology.

 

POSITION SUMMARY

Southern University at Shreveport is seeking a dedicated, experienced, and motivated engineering technology professional to teach courses in the relevant discipline as an adjunct faculty member at the Shreveport campus. This posting is to create a pool of interested applicants, and will be accessed based on student enrollment. Applicant credentials will remain active for a year (12-months)

 

PRIMARY RESPONSBILITIES: 

 

Teaching

  • Teach regular, online and hybrid courses including lab sessions.
  • Design and deliver the course in a way that ensures accomplishing course objectives/outcomes.
  • Use the university approved syllabus template for all courses.
  • Post the course syllabus in the learning management system before the first class or the first day of the semester for online sections.

Course Delivery

  • Design and deliver the course in a way that ensures accomplishing course objectives/outcomes.
  • Keep up-to-date with, and effectively use technology and media in the classroom.
  • Meet each class during the scheduled hours in face-to-face classes or participate in teaching and learning activities several times a week in online classes.
  • Plan and make arrangements for equipment and supplies, field trips, web page, outline, or other special activities needed for the course.

Course Management

  • Post grades to students (on the learning management system) and the Banner on timely manner before deadlines.
  • Use the university email for all communication with students, other faculty, or staff.
  • Respond to all emails from students within 48 hours.
  • Monitor student performance, and utilize early warning systems for students who are not making satisfactory progress, and/or refer students who may need support to the Program Coordinator.
  • Submit the student learning outcome assessment and other evaluation documents required at the end, or throughout the semester.
  • Respond to academic appeals when needed.
  • Promptly fill out and return any mandatory university forms.

 

Administration and Advisement

  • Understand and interpret the mission and vision of the university.
  • Advise and assist students in matters related to course activities.
  • Attend faculty/staff and in-service meetings.
  • Implement and adhere to all university and department policies.
  • Maintain and uphold academic integrity and the university’s work ethic in all aspects of performed duties and activities.
  • Perform other duties, and participate in activities as assigned.

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Must have a Master's degree in Engineering or aBachelor of Science degree in Engineering Technology plus four years’ experience in the Engineering Technology respective discipline.
  • Successful teaching experience in lecture-based environments.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent critical thinking and decision-making skills.
  • Willingness to work in an accelerated and traditional learning format.
  • Previous work experience in engineering field.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate knowledge and understanding of ethics.

 

Compensation:

$2,000-$2,500 per 3 credit hours. 

Compensation will be within this range and commensurate with education and work experience.
