Southern University at Shreveport, Louisiana (SUSLA) is accepting applications for the Online/Distance Education Technology Support Specialist position. SUSLA is a comprehensive community college serving Shreveport, Bossier City, and surrounding areas in Northwest Louisiana. It is one of five campuses constituting the Historically Black Southern University System. The University serves approximately 3,000 undergraduate students and offers 32 undergraduate degrees and certificate programs in a variety of fields including Allied Health, Nursing, Aerospace Technology, Business Studies, Behavioral Science/Education and Science & Technology.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under general supervision, the incumbent supports instructional development initiatives at Southern University at Shreveport. The Online/Distance Education Technology Support Specialist will provide additional support for the university-wide course management system. The incumbent will also provide clerical support, attention to accuracy and detail, ability to work calmly under pressure, effective multitasking skills, strong knowledge of a Learning Management System, excellent customer service and communication skills, and ability to work well with others.
PRIMARY RESPONSBILITIES:
- Assists with the administration of the Learning Management System for online courses, to include creating course shells and maintaining records of training opportunities provided.
- Provides support in classrooms and/or other physical and virtual venues; responds to technical calls, emails and resolve educational technology issues; assists and instructs users in the proper use of equipment and instructional technologies to achieve instructional goals.
- Assists with design development and maintenance of online tutorials to meet the needs of faculty and student’s university-wide.
- Coordinates/assists with the recruitment, admission, and registration for distance/online learning participants.
- Assists with maintenance of files and other clerical tasks as needed.
- Focuses on customer service, timely communication and meeting deadlines.
- Contacts students enrolled in online courses to ensure that they can navigate throughout Moodle.
- Identifies, researches, and resolves technical support issues.
- Employs highly effective organizational and problem-solving skills
- Performs related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, or a related field
Compensation:
Salary Range is $42,000 - $45,000
