Title IX
The Southern University System is committed to fostering an environment in which all members of our campus community are safe, secure, and free from Sexual Misconduct of any form, including but not limited to Sexual Assault, Dating Violence, Domestic Violence, and Stalking. The University expects that all interpersonal relationships and interactions – especially those of an intimate nature – be grounded upon mutual respect, open communication, and clear consent. Each student has the right to learn and each employee has the right to work in an environment free of prohibited sexual based conduct.
The Southern University System and all of its campuses complies with the mandate of Title IX and is committed to maintaining an environment of equal opportunity for both genders in all areas of university life. In accordance with Title IX, the University prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in all educational activities and programs. Through policy and procedure, the University collaborates with departments and organizations to educate students, faculty and staff to promote awareness of University policies and procedures designed to ensure compliance to Title IX and to complaints of gender based discrimination. Each campus within our system has appointed a Title IX Coordinator to facilitate Title IX compliance. The Title IX Coordinator provides support to all areas of the University in meeting compliance requirements and investigates or delegates the investigation of all Title IX related complaints.
Pursuant to federal regulations, the University has updated its policy and procedures. This policy and procedures will go into effect on August 14, 2020 as a System-wide policy. The policy and procedures will be formally adopted by the Southern University Board of Supervisors on August 21, 2020. If you desire to make comments or suggestions on the new policy, please email your Title IX Coordinator at Dr. Devonye Brown. All comments or suggestions will be considered for future revisions.
