Are you guys the University Police, or the Real Police?

Actually the answer is "Yes". Southern University at Shreveport Police Officers have full police and arrest powers anywhere in the state of Louisiana. They have all undergone a series of testing and education mandated by Louisiana POST (Peace Officers Standards in Training). They must maintain this training annually to remain certified.

How many University Police Officers are there?

There are ten sworn officers at the college, including the Chief of Police.

When do the Police work?

There are University Police on duty 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including weekends and holidays. Officers patrol the Martin Luther King campus, the Metro Center, and the Aerospace Technology Center. While on patrol, they can be reached by calling 318.286.6647

What is the most common crime on campus?

Theft is the most common and occurs when someone leaves a valuable item "for just a moment" as they go to the restroom, bookshelf, or get a cup of coffee. When they return, the valuable is gone. Please don't leave anything for even a moment. If you see anyone suspicious lurking around, call police.

How many parking tickets do you have to write? Do you have to give me a ticket?

These questions come up rather frequently in the parking lots. There is no minimum requirement of parking citations. The parking citations are necessary to help ensure ample parking for all those with a valid permit.
