SUMMARY

Southern University at Shreveport, Louisiana (SUSLA) is accepting applications for the Institutional Research Analyst SUSLA is a comprehensive community college serving Shreveport, Bossier City, and surrounding areas in Northwest Louisiana.  It is one of five campuses constituting the Historically Black Southern University System. The University serves approximately 3,000 undergraduate students and offers 32 undergraduate degrees and certificate programs in a variety of fields including Allied Health, Nursing, Aerospace Technology, Business Studies, Behavioral Science/Education and Science & Technology.

 

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Director for Outcomes Assessment and Quality Management, the Institutional Research Analyst (IRA) will conduct analyses to support University and institutional units with planning, evaluation, effectiveness, and reporting. The IRA will extract, analyze, visualize, and describe a variety of institutional data for use internally for strategic decision-making and externally for informational and official reporting to state and federal agencies and other external agencies as assigned. Plays a large role in accreditation data collection efforts, providing both the data and guidance for managing the institution’s accreditation activities for assessing institutional effectiveness and continuous improvement. The incumbent is responsible for producing sound statistical findings as well as communicating and disseminating results in meaningful ways to multiple audiences through summary reports, dashboards, and interactive online data displays.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Apply analytical and problem-solving skills to research and reporting projects.
  • Apply technical/programming skills to extract, analyze, and report information derived from primary data systems.
  • Organize and analyze data to derive meaningful insights.
  • Summarize and present information derived from data clearly and accurately in verbal and written communications in numerical and graphical forms.
  • Conduct needs assessment and performs stakeholder and end-user research. 6. Prepare analytic reports to answer strategic, tactical, structured, or unstructured business questions.
  • Prepare deliverables, such as dashboards, interactive worksheets/workbooks, and/or reports using appropriate tools.
  • Interpret and respond effectively to stakeholder and end-user requests and needs.
  • Prepare written reports, visual data displays, and other types of presentations to assist in communicating data analyses to a variety of audiences and stakeholders.
  • Work in partnership with department staff and other institutional units in the preparation of program review and departmental effectiveness data sets, as well as other mission critical institutional analyses and reports (enrollment comparison reports, course schedule & student exception reports, publication surveys, IPEDS, etc.). Performs related duties as assigned to support the overall effectiveness of the Office of Institutional Research, Assessment and Planning (PAR).
  • Evening, weekend, and travel for work may be required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer or data science, mathematics or statistics, or related field with a strong focus on quantitative research methods and data analysis.
  • Two years of experience related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Technical competence, including experience with R, SPSS, SAS, Excel, SQL or similar software/ programming language to extract and explore data from primary systems.
  • Analytical competence, including experience applying quantitative and qualitative research methods for the purposes of research, analysis, and reporting.
  • Highly developed verbal and written communication skills that demonstrate the ability to present and communicate complex data, methods, technical information, problems and alternative solutions to a board range of technical and non-technical audiences.
  • The position requires a high level of accuracy, extraordinary attention to detail, solid proofreading skills, ability to multi-task and adhere to deadlines and adherence to ethical and legal standards in institutional research

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree.
  • Knowledge and proficiency of relational database systems and tools is a plus.
  • Experience with data reporting and/or visualization tools such as Tableau, Microsoft BI, etc.
  • Experience with Banner or other enterprise reporting system.

COMPENSATION:

$53,500 - $56,500
