SUSLA Student Receives Frank J. Taylor Jr. STEM Scholarship

Christoper Davis was awarded the Frank Taylor, Jr. Scholarship. The the award was made to the Southern University Sreveport Foundation by Cheryl Taylor, the mother of the late Frank Taylor, Jr. Mr. Davis is a Computer Information Science student and will graduate in May of this year. Those in attendance were Dr. Aubra J. Gantt, Chancellor Southern University at Shreveport, Frank Williams, Director of the Southern University at Shreveport Foundation, Judge John Moseley, Vanessa White, Interim Dean Business, Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics , Dr. Lonnie McCray, Interim VC of Academic Affairs for SUSLA and family and friends of the Frank Taylor Jr. family as well as friends of Mr. Christopher Davis.

 

ABOUT THE SCHOLARSHIP

The scholarship is named for a SUSLA graduate and engineering student. The late Frank Taylor, Jr. graduated in 2002 and enrolled at Southern University at Shreveport in the summer of 2002. During his two (2) year matriculation there, he became the Freshman Class President, Student Government President in 2003 and a member of the Southern University Board of Supervisors; making his voice heard across all of the campuses.

His professional career included a position as an Electronics Engineer at Northrop Grumman in New Orleans, Louisiana for three (3) years.  Also, an Electrical Engineer, Shipbuilder with the Department of Defense, Huntington Ingalls Industries in Newport News, VA from 2010 until he went to be with our Lord.
