Crowned in Confidence: SUSLA's Queen's Royal Tea 2026

Leadership, grace and empowerment were celebrated during the Student Government Association’s annual Queen’s Royal Tea at Southern University at Shreveport. This year’s theme was “Crowned in Confidence.”

Attendees were greeted at the door by Kyndryck Green, 58th Student Government Association President, and Miss Nia Brown, 58th Miss Southern University at Shreveport. Once inside, a sea of colorful hats and derby attire filled the room as guests, including Camriana Taylor, Miss Green Oak Performing Arts Academy, students, faculty, and staff turned out in their festive fascinators to take part in the royal celebration.

Upon the introduction of the ceremony, guests feasted on delicious refreshments that included sandwiches, fresh fruit, chocolate covered strawberries and tea. Following the royal greeting, presented by Miss Brown, keynote speaker Dr. Anjelica Hart, Department Chair of Social and Behavioral Sciences at SUSLA, took to the stage offering words of inspiration and encouragement.

While addressing the crowd, Dr. Hart encouraged all women attendees to participate in a roleplay activity as a queen and as an affirmative. This activity was designed to allow the guests to be seen and heard, let go of stressors and feel freedom from releasing any burdens. Dr. Hart concluded her message with a powerful and uplifting nugget for everyone to take with them.

“Stand in your power, stand in your purpose and never forget who you are,” said Dr. Hart. “You’re not becoming a queen, you already are one.

The royal celebration concluded with dessert and guests feeling empowered and inspired.
