Mathematics Instructor

SUMMARY

Candidate is responsible for providing quality instruction to students through well prepared classes, relevant assignments, fair and holistic assessment of learning, clear documentation of student progress, and support of the academic success of our students. The faculty member is expected to assist the University/Division in achieving its vision and mission; focus on customer service, accountability, integrity and have a willingness to assist as needed.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensures that course syllabi reflect the expectations the faculty have of the students. This includes any new competencies identified through the systematic program evaluation.
  • Inform the student through written information, email or website course requirements, grade determination, testing and other assignments as well as information regarding other departmental policies. This information is to the supplied to the student for each course a faculty member is assigned to teach.
  • Use current technology to enhance effectiveness, including but not limited to computers, course management systems (Moodle) overhead projectors, PowerPoint, DVD/VCR equipment, and willing to learn and apply any other new technology needed to enhance learning.
  • Actively participate in meetings called by University Administrators, including the Department Chair for the purpose of disseminating information; providing input into the decision-making process or for the sharing of expertise with colleagues.
  • Compile, administer and grade assignments and examinations in a timely manner so that the student is aware of his/her progress and allow time for the development of a plan that will promote student success and a positive outcome. Use computer and internet programs to disseminate information to students, prepare exams, and prepare class presentations as pertinent.
  • Provide a safe environment for students; encourage students to use available support services; encourage group activities and involvement of classes as appropriate. Collaborate with support services to ensure information is shared and discussed.
  • Be responsible for the security of assigned equipment, classrooms, office, and all other teaching materials.
  • Maintain FERPA standards as applied to public institution of higher learning.
  • Provide information and/or data to administration so that the proper reports may be completed and filed with the proper educational agency, funding agency, or accrediting agency.
  • Follow Institutional course, faculty, and students’ evaluation procedures.
  • Follow the procedures related to the Registrar's Office such as grade reports and deadlines' attendance record reports; withdrawal deadline; class changes; and time/ room scheduling.
  • Focus on customer service, timely communication, and meeting deadlines.
  • Perform other duties as needed or required.

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Must have a Master’s degree with at least 18 hours of graduate work in Mathematics
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Computer skills are necessary
  • Strong attention to detail is essential

PREFERRED QUALIFCATIONS 

  • Prior teaching experience in secondary education or professional work experience.
