Spirit on Display: SUSLA Marches at Cooper Road 25th Anniversary Parade

This past weekend, Southern University at Shreveport (SUSLA) actively participated in the Cooper Road USA 25th Anniversary Celebration, showcasing the university's strong community presence and school spirit.

Dr. Aubra J. Gantt, SUSLA Chancellor, delivered the welcome remarks at the banquet, which was attended by residents, alumni, and local officials. During the event, SUSLA supporters Tony and Tina Williams, SUSLA’s own Ms. Yvette Allen, and others were honored for their contributions to the Cooper Road/MLK area, also highlighting the university’s commitment to recognizing outstanding community members.

The celebration continued with a vibrant parade in which scholars from SUSLA’s Williams Center, Dental Hygiene Program students, Chancellor Gantt, University Police, and staff proudly took part. The students engaged spectators by throwing out candy and SUSLA branded swag, spreading enthusiasm and school pride along the parade route.

Adding to the excitement, the Shreveport Corvette Club generously provided several vehicles for SUSLA to ride in during the parade, adding a touch of flair to the festivities. Support from local organizations like the Corvette Club helps strengthen the university’s ties to the community.

Overall, SUSLA’s participation in the Cooper Road USA’s 25th Celebration was a resounding success, reaffirming the institution’s dedication to fostering community engagement and celebrating local history.
