SUSLA Celebrates 146th Founders' Day

What a historical day at Southern University at Shreveport, as we celebrated the Southern University System's 146th Founder’s Day!

Chancellor Aubra J. Gantt, students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community leaders came together to honor the rich history and legacy of the Southern University System. From inspiring musical performances by Lemesa Fleury, Jibri Houston & Grove Magnolia, and the SUSLA Jazz Ensemble to recognizing outstanding students for their academic achievement and leadership, the celebration was truly unforgettable.

A special thank you to Ray L. Belton, PhD., retired President of the Southern University System, former Southern University and A&M College Chancellor, and former Southern University at Shreveport Chancellor for serving as our keynote speaker and uplifting us all with his powerful and inspiring words. "We honor our founders' legacy by continuing the work that they put forth," said Dr. Belton. "May we continue to collectively honor our past, embrace the present, and look forward to a brighter future."

Four students were recognized for their accomplishments: Health Information Technology student Jada Breazesale, Respiratory Therapy student Tynesha Williams, and Kyndryck Green were awarded the Community Service Award. The Scholarship Award was presented to Polysomnography student Emily King.

We also shared exciting updates on the "SUSLA's Blue and Golden Time of Day Scholarship Fundraiser" and how our community can continue to support student success.

SUSLA's record setting amount raised of $1,257,629, for year 2025, was announced with a big check presentation! The challenge was extended to all to participate in our 2026 "Are You In" campaign, by becoming an advocate.

To top it all off, attendees enjoyed delicious cake with Dr. Aubra J. Gantt, Southern University at Shreveport Chancellor, making the celebration even sweeter!

The future is bright at SUSLA, and we look forward to continuing our journey toward excellence!
