  1. What is a prerequisite?

Prerequisites in academia are generally courses that you must complete before enrolling in another course.

English 100S-Freshman English is the prerequisite to all other English courses

Math 095S-Intermediate Algebra II is the prerequisite to all other math courses

Students who score 18 or higher in English, or 19 or higher in Math are NOT required to enroll in developmental education courses. If the student’s placement scores do not meet the criteria, student is required to enroll in developmental courses in order to improve skills maximizing college success.

  1. Why can’t I register for a class?

There are a few reasons you may be unable to register for a class. The most common are:

Prerequisite Error-Another course must be completed before taking that course

Attribute Error:  Your Banner portal includes classes being offered on all Southern University campuses. Please refer to the section numbers indicated below in order to verify you are enrolling in the appropriate SUSLA classes. The Section number can be seen in the 5TH column of the screen in Banner Web.

001-010-SUSLA class taught face-to-face

100-SUSLA lab class

400-SUSLA online class

600-SUSLA hybrid class which is a combination of online and face-to-face

If you have taken the prerequisite at another institution, please provide your advisor with a copy of your academic transcript. Please refer to Transfer Credit Policy

  1. Why am I taking a class not listed on my degree plan?

This is a prerequisite. Prerequisites in academia are generally courses that you must complete before enrolling in a second course.

  1. Who do I contact for Housing?

Through living in the Jaguar Courtyard, the university strives to provide an atmosphere where students may learn and effectively pursue their academic and personal goals. All leasing is by the bedroom with an individual lease for each resident. All utilities are paid (electric, water, trash, cable, and internet). Jaguar Courtyard is a safe living community with controlled access gate.

  1. Where do I obtain an Identification Card?

Identification Cards (ID) must be obtained or validated during regular registration each semester. If a student loses the ID card, the replacement ID can be purchased at the cashier’s window for a non-refundable fee of $10.00. A paid receipt and legal photo of the requestor should be presented to SUSLA Information Technology and Communications (ITC).

  1. Which of my transfer credits will be accepted at SUSLA?

Transfer students may opt to include/exclude transfer coursework towards their degree at SUSLA. Once admitted, the student will request their transcripts be sent to their Success Coach (for under 30 credit hours earned) and their Academic Advisor (for over 30 credit hours earned). Once received, an Academic Plan will be completed. This Academic Plan will then be uploaded into the Transfer Credit Articulation Request form. A link to this form, housed with the Office of Admissions, is below.

  1. How to request transcript articulation:

-Request that the university you attended previously sends your transcript to SUSLA.

-Check to see if your transcript has arrived in SUSLA’s Admissions office after a couple of days.  --When it is here, request that Admissions sends a copy to your Division Academic Advisor to prepare your degree plan which must be uploaded with your request to articulate transcript.

-When you have the degree plan do the following:

-You must use your sus email address to sign in.  Your password is usually the first 4 letters of your last name and last 4 digits of your student ID number. Complete the form and upload the degree plan prepared by your Academic Adviser and submit the form.
