EMT-Basic Program Information

Students must first have the EMT Basic certification prior to Paramedic program acceptance.

New classes start every Spring and Fall for day classes

New classes for the night offering start only in the Spring semester

No summer classes.

Classes to register for,  EMTB 200S and EMTB 201S (make sure you pick the appropriate classes for night or day classes)

Classes are two days per week with a third day of Lab practice as needed.

EMT Basic requires 1 semester or 21 hours to complete, and students will be prepared for National Registry Testing at program end. 

Acceptance criteria for EMT Basic

No specific application, please see information sheet and call/email the staff. Contact information is in the Program Information Document

  • Must be enrolled in Southern University at Shreveport
  • Must be in good standing with Southern University at Shreveport
  • Must register for EMT Basic classes (day or night)
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must be able to do the physical components as outlined in the Student Handbook.
  • Must have an LA driver’s license.
