Faculty & Staff

We appreciate your interest in the Southern University at Shreveport EMS Training Program. We are excited you have interest in Emergency Medicine, and we would be privileged to help you achieve your goals. No matter the level of training you seek, EMR, EMT, or Paramedic, we at SUSLA are here for you.  All you need to do is bring your desire to learn and your passion for helping people.

After 30 years, I retired from the Shreveport Fire Department as a Battalion Chief. I have been a paramedic since 1990. In 2010, I became a Registered Nurse gaining experience in local Emergency Departments. I truly enjoy teaching and mentoring students as they grow into licensed emergency care providers. I serve as the Program Director for our program.

Dr. Cornelius is our Medical Director. We are fortunate to have her with us and she brings a vast amount of knowledge and experience to our program. She serves our community as an ED Physician and a Professor of Emergency Medicine at our Level One Trauma Center. Her expertise and leadership will lead our program to great success. Students will find her approachable, humble, and eager to help our program as needed.

Nathan Tabor is our Clinical Coordinator. He is also retired from the Shreveport Fire Department after 33 years of service. He retired as the Chief of EMS and has been a paramedic since 1994. He has been a Flight Medic, worked in local Emergency Departments, and has spent much of his career serving our community working as a front-line medic. He offers students a strong EMS management and leadership perspective along with comprehensive clinical education.

Kevin Coleman is our instructor. He has been practicing paramedicine since 1995 and has been with Caddo Fire District 4 for over 25 years. He currently serves our community as a Fire Captain and Paramedic. Kevin has worn many hats within the EMS arena and offers students an unmatched degree of quality EMS education. He has been an instructor for many years and has led many to their dream of becoming EMS workers. As well, he serves as a Training Officer for Caddo Fire District 4 and is an ACLS and BLS instructor. We are fortunate to have him, and students will find him approachable, helpful, and passionate about his profession.

As you can see, we have many years of experience and knowledge to share with students. Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact our staff.
