Program Overview

Type: Associate of Science in Teaching

The Associate of Science in Teaching (Grades 1–5) program is designed for students who want to become elementary school teachers. This transfer pathway provides a seamless transition from a Board of Regents-approved associate degree at a Louisiana public community college to a Board of Regents-approved Bachelor of Science in Teaching (Grades 1–5) program at a participating four-year public university within the Louisiana State University, Southern University, or University of Louisiana Systems. By completing this program, you'll build a strong academic foundation while staying on track to earn your bachelor's degree and pursue teacher certification.

Requirements
  • Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA as follows: 2.00 for 0-15 hours, 2.20 for 16-30 hours, 2.50 for 31-60 hours
  • Students must earn a grade of “C” or higher in all courses to ensure their transferability.
  • Complete any required developmental courses with a grade of “C” or higher.
  • Successfully complete an entrance interview.
  • Have a background check that meets all state-identified regulations to interact with children.
  • Students must complete and pass Praxis I and Praxis II.
