Program and Student Learning Outcome Assessment Cycle
As depicted in Figure I and II, SUSLA adheres to an on-going and cyclical process for assessing the effectiveness of its non-instructional and instructional programs and courses. Programs are to complete an Institutional Effectiveness Plan in the fall of each academic year and report the findings in the Institutional Effectiveness Report in April/May. Similarly, applicable courses complete a Course Assessment Report in accordance with the University assessment cycle.

Historical Overview
Southern University at Shreveport, a unit of the Southern University System located at Baton Rouge, Louisiana, was created by Act 42 of the ordinary session of the Louisiana Legislature on May 11, 1964, and designated a two-year commuter college to serve the Shreveport-Bossier City area. Its basic emphasis was to provide the first two years of typical college and university work.
