Lay Person of the Year 2019-2020: Dr. Orban, a Distinguished Professor of Biomedical Sciences

Southern University at Shreveport Professor Named the Lay Person of the Year 2019-2020 by the Kiwanis Club of Shreveport and the Louisiana, Mississippi and West Tennessee District of Kiwanis International.

Dr. Joseph Orban, a Distinguished Professor of Biomedical Sciences at Southern University Shreveport Louisiana was honored with the award of the Lay Person of the Year 2019-2020. The award was presented by the Kiwanis Club of Shreveport and Louisiana, Mississippi and West Tennessee District of Kiwanis International in recognition of services provided by Dr. Orban in Shreveport, Louisiana and around the World that exemplifies the ideals of loving God and loving neighbor. The award included two plaques, one from Kiwanis Club of Shreveport and one from the Louisiana, Mississippi and West Tennessee District of Kiwanis International as well as $250.00 donated to Charity Organization (The Salvation Army in Shreveport) in Dr. Orban’s name. Dr. Orban was nominated for the award by Bob Jahnke of the Robert Jahnke Law Firm in Shreveport and Rev. Mark Goins, former Pastor of Christ United Methodist Church, Shreveport.  The award was presented during a meeting of the Kiwanis Club of Shreveport on July 8, 2021 in Bossier City. The Kiwanis Club of Shreveport was organized on November 12, 1921 and is the oldest Kiwanis Club in Northwestern Louisiana. The club is dedicated to serving children and those in need. Kiwanis International is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to improving the world one child and one community at a time.
