MS KICK Launches 2026 Kids Kooking in the Kitchen Summer Camp Series

The Milam Street Kitchen Incubator & Community Kitchen (MS KICK), a program of Southern University at Shreveport, proudly launched the first session of its 2026 Kids Kooking in the Kitchen (KKITK) summer camp on June 18, marking the return of the youth culinary program after a two-year hiatus.

With the vibrant theme “We Been Outside: Retro Summer Fun,” inspired by the carefree summers of the 80s and 90s, this year’s camp blends culinary education with creativity, culture, and community.

Twelve campers, ages 13–17, participated in the opening session, where they received foundational kitchen safety instruction, explored healthy ingredient alternatives, and learned essential culinary techniques including knife skills, recipe scaling, and scratch cooking.

Led by MS KICK Executive Director Chef Monique “Mosa” Armand, the program continues its mission to equip youth with practical life skills while fostering confidence, teamwork, and leadership in the kitchen.

The first camp session featured culinary instruction from Chef Jasmine of Boujee Bites and Chef Chris of Louisiana Pistolettes, who guided students through an engaging cooking experience designed to inspire both creativity and discipline.

“Kids Kooking in the Kitchen is more than a cooking camp,” said Chef Mosa. “It’s about exposing young people to culinary arts, entrepreneurship, teamwork, and the confidence that comes from creating something with their own hands.”

Funded by the Caddo Parish Commission, KKITK serves as an extension of MS KICK’s broader commitment to workforce development, food education, and community empowerment.

The remaining summer camp sessions are scheduled for July 2, July 16, and July 30, 2026, with additional local chefs and culinary experiences planned.

MS KICK remains dedicated to cultivating the next generation of culinary talent while creating meaningful opportunities for education, innovation, and economic growth in the Shreveport community.
