Thank you for your interest in the EMS Training Program at Southern University at Shreveport. Listed below or some quick facts about our program and directions for your next steps to get started.   

Program Information for Paramedic:

New classes start every Fall and Spring semesters

Paramedic: 16 months or 46 hours to complete our program (52 hours if you need A&P)

Paramedic classes or in the evening, 2-3 meetings per week depending on clinical assignments.

*Our program is designed for the working adult learner.

Costs for Paramedic is approximately 8-$10,000 depending on the need for A&P and the purchase of recommended books. This includes mandated books, school fees, and lab fees. *Does not include National Registry Testing, transportation, and scrubs for clinicals

At program end, you will have earned a Technical Diploma in EMS Paramedic and be prepared to take the National and State test for licensure.

Acceptance criteria for Paramedic:

  • Must be accepted into Southern University at Shreveport
  • Must be an EMT Basic in good standing with the State of LA- *This is a prerequisite
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must be able to do the physical components as outlined in the Student Handbook.
  • Must have A&P (Bio 220,222) prior to acceptance or complete it during the first semester online.

(We have introduced an online class specific for paramedic students (must be completed with a C or better by first semester ending)

  • Must have a valid LA driver’s license.
  • Attend informational meeting: During the weeks prior to class start, our staff will conduct online or in-person meetings with prospective students. It is a time for you to answer questions and hear more about our program.
