Summer Financial Aid
SUSLA Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships offers limited financial aid to students enrolled during the summer semester. Summer financial aid is not automatic and requires students to meet specific eligibility requirements criteria and submit requested documentation.
Priority Deadline: Friday, May 15, 2026
Students interested in receiving financial aid must meet the following:
1. Complete the "2025-2026 Summer Application"
- You must be enrolled for the Summer 2026 semester before completing this application.
- Once enrolled, the Summer Application will be added to your financial aid student requirements on Self-Service Banner 9 Dashboard.
2. Complete the 2025-2026 FAFSA
- SUSLA School Code: 007686
3. Be enrolled in an eligible degree program
- Note: Students classified as Summer-only, Transient, Visiting, or Bridge are not eligible to receive financial aid.
4. Maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress
- SAP will be reviewed at the end of the Spring 2026 semester.

Is Financial Aid available for Summer?
Yes – but Summer Financial Aid at SUSLA is limited and typically drawn from unused eligibility from the award year. Not all students will qualify.
Summer financial aid may include:
- Federal Pell Grant
- Federal Direct Loans (if remaining eligibility exists and grants do not cover tuition & fees)
- Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)
- Federal Work Study
- Louisiana State Programs – TOPS, TOPS Tech, TOPS Excellence, J. Foster Promise Program, National Guard Patriot Scholarship, depending on state appropriations
- Other aid, depending on availability
Am I eligible for Summer Financial Aid?
To be eligible for Summer financial aid, students must meet the following criteria:
- FAFSA Requirements
- Must have a completed 2025-2026 FAFSA on file (SUSLA Federal School Code: 007686) at https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa
- All student requirements (including verification requirements) must be complete and processed
- Must meet the minimum academic requirements to receive financial aid (SUSLA Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy)
- Complete the Summer Financial Aid Request form. (This form will be made available to you after you have completed your FAFSA and enrolled at SUSLA.)
- Enrollment Requirements
- Must be admitted as a certificate or degree-seeking student
- Must not have a “Special Program” and/or “Summer Only Student” classification as your Admissions status
- Must register for summer classes
- Summer Pell
- Pell Grant awards depend on credit hours enrolled (Pell Grant Enrollment Intensity)
- Must have not exceeded your Pell Grant Lifetime Eligibility Usage
- Please note: Pell Grant awards may be reduced or cancelled if enrollment changes
- Federal Student Loans
- Students who did not borrow the maximum loan amount during Fall and Spring may be eligible for Federal Direct Loans in the Summer.
- Important reminders:
- Loan eligibility is based on remaining annual limits.
- Students must be enrolled at least half-time (6 credit hours)
- Direct Parent PLUS loan approval is not automatic and may require additional steps.
Preparing for Summer Financial Aid
SUSLA Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships recommends that you:
- Complete your FAFSA early.
- Enroll only in the courses listed on your degree plan.
- Monitor your Self-Service Banner 9 Dashboard and SUS/SUSLA email accounts
- Respond promptly to any requests from SUSLA Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships.
- Budget for out-of-pocket expenses and explore scholarship opportunities, if needed.

What is Summer Financial Aid?
Summer financial aid refers to limited federal and institutional aid that may be available to eligible students enrolled during the Summer semester. Summer aid is not guaranteed and is often based on remaining eligibility from the academic year.
Do I need to complete a FAFSA for Summer financial aid consideration?
Yes. To be considered for Summer financial aid, you must have a valid FAFSA on file for the appropriate award year.
Is Summer financial aid automatic?
No. Summer financial aid is not automatic, even if you received aid during the Fall and/or Spring semester(s). You must be admitted to SUSLA as a degree-seeking student, enroll in Summer classes at SUSLA, meet all eligibility requirements, and complete the Summer Financial Aid Request form.
How can I gain access to my Summer Financial Aid Request form?
Once you have a completed FAFSA and have enrolled at SUSLA, you may access your Summer Financial Aid Request form by logging onto your Self-Service Banner 9 Dashboard and follow the steps below:
- Select Financial Aid
- Select Financial Aid Dashboard
- Select the 2025-2026 Aid Year
- Your Student Requirements will be located at the bottom of the Financial Aid Home Page.
What types of financial aid are available during the summer semester?
Depending on eligibility and availability, Summer financial aid may consist of:
- Federal Pell Grant
- Federal Direct Loans (if remaining eligibility exists and grants do not cover tuition & fees)
- Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)
- Federal Work Study

When will my summer financial aid be disbursed?
Summer financial aid cannot be authorized or disbursed until:
- You are enrolled and fully registered.
- Your financial aid file is completed.
- Your attendance is verified.
Please note: If you change or drop courses, your aid may be reduced or cancelled, as outlined in SUSLA’s Return of Title IV Policy.
Will summer financial aid cover all my tuition and fees?
Not always. Summer financial aid may not cover your full cost of tuition and fees. For details regarding tuition payment plans, please visit https://www.susla.edu/page/instructions-for-paying-fees-online.
Please note: Tuition and fees will not be cancelled if aid is reduced or reversed.
What happens if I drop a summer class?
Dropping or withdrawing from Summer courses may:
- Reduce your financial aid
- Require repayment of funds
- Leave you responsible for remaining tuition and fees

Do Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) matter for Summer?
