Jaguar Academy is the academic enhancement opportunities for TRiO Educational Talent & Upward Bound participants. Jaguar Academy participants are provided college access through rigor course offerings, secondary education tutorial, and ACT prep services with Southern University at Shreveport (SUSLA).    

As an opportunity to increase content mastery on the national college access examination, TRiO Upward Bound and Educational Talent Search participants are provided extended ACT preparatory assistance designed to measure their readiness for completing the examination. English, Math, Reading and Scientific Reasoning academic skills are the content areas for preparation mastery and college acceptance.    

More than after-school tutoring services, Jaguar Academy: Content MASTERY is a collaborative and self-awareness session designed to increase the mastery of core curriculum content for high school students. In a structured and supportive environment; Jaguar Academy: Content MASTERY enhances the academic skills for TRiO participants.  

TRiO Educational Talent Search & Upward Bound Teachers are provided the unique opportunity to align their academic content specialty with a co-curriculum experience. To enhance the classroom connection, Jag Collab: Core Content Experience maximizes instruction and learning for TRiO Educational Talent Search & Upward Bound participants.   

On each Saturday, during the Fall and Spring semesters, TRiO Upward Bound and Educational Talent Search students are provided an intimate look into the Southern University at Shreveport’s exceptional certificate and degree programs. Saturdays with SUSLA also provides an opportunity to for parents, guardians, guidance counselors, principals are invited to attend! Each student will have the opportunity to interact with faculty and staff from over 40 certificate and degree programs!    

TRiO Upward Bound and Educational Talent Search students are provided the opportunity to earn college credit while in high school. Students demonstrating college readiness, as aligned with the Louisiana Believes initiative will earn college credit by enrolling and completing approved college classes offered at their respective high school, SUSLA campus, or online. College courses are taught by educators who are expected to mirror the profile of a traditional college instructor (e.g., credentials, course rigor) and classroom (e.g., instructional materials/equipment). Jaguar Academy Participants are provided daily instructional support services, through Educational Advocate assistance, designed to streamline the learning and comprehension of academic content (i.e. Tutorials and Don't Lose the Student) and academia satisfaction. College credits earned through Jaguar Academy will be applicable to a Southern University at Shreveport degree and are generally transferable to other colleges and universities.    

Preparing for middle school is a crucial point in a lifetime of learning. While elementary school focuses on the student, and high school solidifies skills, Junior Jaguar Academy: Mastering Middle School introduces TRiO Educational Talent Search participants to the important of education and social competency. Junior Jaguar Academy: Mastering Middle School will not simply teach core academic content and social skills; the program will teach how these facts carry over to career exploration, cultural awareness, post-secondary education, and social satisfaction.   

Parent Supporting TRiO assures parents and legal guardians of TRiO participants are provided a clear understanding and vision of TRiO Educational Talent Search & Upward Bound Programs at Southern University Shreveport. During the monthly PST meetings, parents and legal guardians are kept abreast of all functionalities of TRiO and are provided educational resources designed to motivate their child to participate regularly in TRiO Upward Bound and Educational Talent Search activities. PST anticipates collaborating with our participants and parents while providing educational services to build stronger TRiO Upward Bound and Educational Talent Search services and resources.
